Relient K

Do you have a favorite band? If you don’t, studies by Doctor Phil show that you may have problems with your self-esteem. When I found this out, I was at first scared, then relived. How terrible! was my first reaction, but then I thought, Oh, wait. I have a favorite band!

I wrote a poem about the whole ordeal:

Happenstance
It just so happened to me this day,
On May the 9th, as it were,

That piddling about brought me sorrow,
From info I hadn’t yet heard.

Could it be, I have problems with confidence,
Trouble with my outlook on life?

I was saddened by thoughts like these ones,
But after a while, I began to think twice,

‘Great gophers!’ I said to my self on a bench,
now having a fabulous day,

‘I can’t be depressed’, I said with a smile,
for my favorite band is Relient K!

Yes folks, I am proud to share that I am a huge follower of Relient K. I have all six albums (seven, if you include the Christmas one) and have seen them in concert. They occupy a third of the music on my iPod, the number of songs totaling 124. Matt Thiessen is my favorite famous-type person (but Tony claims he doesn’t qualify as a celebrity, just because he isn’t in all those stupid magazines. Tony loves his tabloids).

Grandpa asked me a very interesting question at dinner yester day. He said, ‘Luigi, if you like Relient K so much, then tell me, what is your favorite album?’ I thought about it for a while, then came up with this list:

1. Five Score and Seven Years Ago
2. Mmmhmmm
3. Two Rights Don’t Make a Left (but three do)
4. Relient K
5. The Bird and the Bee Sides
6. The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek

I excitedly await their next release! Still wondering why I like Relient K? It is because of their amazing talent as musicians. Some people believe that they just bang on their instruments and kind of yell along with the stupid lyrics. To say such a thing show that the listener is not very attentive and doesn’t perceive sound as well as the rest of the population. The skill of Matt Thiessen, Mathew Hoops, Ethan Luck, John Shneck, and Jonathan Warnes is simply incredible. As a guitar player, I can truly appreciate what those men do on their guitars. Each song they orchestrate is filled with impossible chords, solos, rhythms and riffs that I could never dream of playing. Also, the diversity of their music is astounding. I have many other bands I like, but a few of these bands are just repetitive. They are good, but then the next song sounds very similar to the first, and the next sound similar to that one. Not so with Relient K. Additionally, the vocals of the band are very pure and smooth. They have recorded several a cappella songs that really show their amazing singing skills.

I have no problem with someone not appreciating Relient K as much as I do, but at least listen to enough of there music to form an opinion before writing them off as stupid clowns who have no talent.

What is Worship?

Once again, I find myself on my laptop, spilling out my heart and soul for the entire internet world to read freely if they desire. Funny concept, this blogging ordeal. Anyway, while I have your attention, I would like to share how Jesus has bestowed on my heart these last few days.

I have been contemplating the meaning of worship because of a happening at a retreat I recently attended. I am not one to glean a lot from singing, but something about seeing all my friends so in touch with God made me think, “Why am I not as they are?”

This troubled me. Over the next days of the retreat, I tried to get into the feel of worship. The first day I managed to splutter along with the other 1,200 people at the event. But that was by my own doing, and I didn’t get anywhere. But that night it was God’s turn to work in me. He woke up the sleeper within and I actually took something from the songs we sang. For the first time in my life I really enjoyed the worship for what it was; not just music, but glorifying the Almighty.

The next day I really was moved by the music. I sang (very poorly, but I have heard God is tone-deaf, and that brought me some comfort) and swayed and closed my eyes and thought about the words. Once again I came away feeling revived and refreshed. But I still felt like I was holding myself back.

Sadly, the next day was the last day. But that night was just what I needed. During the song, ‘Mighty to Save’, I just felt God telling me to put aside my pride and let go of myself.

I did.

But as I raised my arms to the Lord, a strobe light highlighted my every move. I swore the whole crowd could see me. It was Satan’s last attempt to throw me from the worshipful atmosphere. He almost succeeded. I almost drew back. But God shone through. At that very moment, the words to the song were:

Were singing for the glory of the risen King!

That did it. The realization struck me like holy lightning from heaven. Worship is not about me, but rather the opposite; it is humbling myself and showing that God is worth laying aside my pride and giving him the pure worship he deserves. I will never forget that moment.

Pie Rates and Pirates

Sooooo….I was thinking the other day about how many different pie flavors I have had. I made a list:

  • Apple
  • Cherry
  • Lemon
  • Key Lime
  • Rhubarb
  • Pumpkin
  • Plumb
  • Boysenberry
  • Raspberry
  • Blackberry

This list made me think very hard for about two hours. Which one was my favorite? After much thought, I came to the conclusion that Key Lime was best of them all. I rate it #1. Boysenberry came in the #2 slot, followed by Blackberry at #3, and Cherry at #4. Then I was stuck by a funny: Pie Rates! Sounds a lot like pirates. =o)

Speaking of which, did you hear about poor Mr. Phillips? He was that crazy bold dude who sacrificed himself for his crew. That kind of service is just uncanny. It makes me tear up even now. It is my strong opinion that we need more of that in the US. What a fellow! Tony is bananas about him, and has a large poster of him on his wall. Tony’s room in next to mine. Tony is kinda spoiled… =)

I also wrote a poem about Mr. Phillips:

The Bold

Pirates!

Run and scream!

Pirates!

Awful mean!

Pirates!

Stole our captian!

Pirates!

Knew this would happen!

Pirates!

Scare him not.

Pirates!

That nasty lot.

Because I have this strange urge to express more opinion on the matter, I also wrote a poem about bravery and what it means to me:

Dashed Hopes

All is lost, but not my courage,

I will stand fast therefore;

My gator boots deep in mud,

I won’t bend to weakness.

Can’t feel much, but that does not bother

One who is so brave to begain with;

I couldn’t express why that’s the matter,

But in the end, who’s counting?

Though April brings heartache,

It passes unnoticed.

Hope you feel energized this week!

Two Towers

Haldir is my favorite character...too bad he dies. =(

Haldir is my favorite character...too bad he dies. =(

Well hello all! I just watched the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and WOW! I was blown off my feet! If you are knee-deep in an awkward conversation and you feel the urge to talk about an exciting, flavorful, enchanted, action-packed, well played, gory, intense, suspenseful, intriguing, magical, and wonderful adventure movie, then talk about The Two Towers! This will give you ample discussion for a whole afternoon. The plot line is unmatched. The cast of characters is perfect. The costumes are amazing. The effects are terrific. What more could you want in a PG-13 movie?
I must say that the major battle in this movie is outstanding. You really get the feeling of despair as you watch ten thousand orcs march up to Helm’s Deep. You will scream and cheer when the elves of Lothlorian arrive. You watch, mouth agape, as Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli slaughter orc after orc. And finally, when all hope is lost, the sun rises, and to the east is Gandalf the White, accompanied by Eomer and the Riders of Rohan. Emotion surges as they take their final charge down the mountain side and clash with the beast of Isengard.
I love this movie! I totally recommend it for those searching for an epic tale of valor and freedom. But…I wouldn’t recommend it for the younger crowd. This movie had my poor Tony crying under the bed. Tony didn’t like Gollum very much. But I was inspired to write a poem on the Two Towers. It goes like this:
When all is lost, and all is gone,
And your dog is under the bed,
Look to the east, my solemn friend,
And see skies that are no longer red.

Buy Gum!

Today is a great day. I was hired by Wrigley’s Gum, Inc. at 8:04 AM this morning. I am in charge of  matinance at the Pittsburg plant in Pittsburg. I help make sure the gum-wrapping machines are in good working order. I am so happy that I was not put in charge of those terrible gum-making machines. Now those are a pain. All day they make this horrid noise:

KA-ga KA-ga KA-ga KA-ga RPHUMMMMPH!!! KA-ga KA-ga KA-ga!!!

It wears down the mind faster than diet soda, which, by the way, is really nasty. Don’t listen to the people that tell you, “Oh! It’s just the same as sugar!” which really is a lie. It turns to formaldihide, which is that stuff they put on dead people. ICK!!!

I saw a dead guy once. It was in a morge. I was in a morge because I needed to talk to their general manager about getting together to play backgammon on Thursday. Thursday is my favorite day of the week. Backgammon is my favorite game.

And speaking of favorite games, who’s pumped for baseball season? GO NATIONALS!!!! In fact, I wrote a upbeat poem disgusing baseball…

The Grand Ol’ Game

It stands like an elderly man,

distingushed as can be,

happily knowing that nobody,

could be quite as happy as he.

So who likes to eat Subway at the ballpark? I DO! I go grab a five dollar footlong, settle down for a nice long game, and eat that sucker in two innings. What makes a sub is the bread. I personally always go with Italian Herbs and Cheese. It goes well with the smell of peanuts and lemonade. How I love summer.

AND! Did you know that it’s only 79 days untill Cambridge Day?

A Great Big Oopsie!

Wow! What a blunder I made! My name is Luigi Bomgars, but you would never know, because I accidentally put my name as Luigi Bombars. I think that’s an ugly name. Plus it’s not even my name. Well, I think I’ll use this time to share some cool things about me. I live in Pittsburg with my Grandpa Arnold. Arnold is a very cool man. He was my mother’s father, but when she and daddy left for good, I had to live with him. He snores all night and his house smells like sour cream, but it’s a good life. I met the love of my life two years ago: Tony, my dog. Tony is a mutt, so I don’t really know what he is. He is a dark brown little thing with a long tonuge. What most people notice about him is that his back two legs are missing. I don’t even notice, he gets around so well. He usually slides around on his belly, happy as can be. Well it’s almost time to feed the little sucker, so I best be signing off. But first, here is a poem I wrote:

FEELINGS

How to feel? Is it real? Just a dream?

Living life. Really nice. Just a dream?

Outside. Inside. Just a dream?

I labored over this all morning. =) It makes me think, how about you?

Another Day, Another Way

Wade through the depths and bring me back!

This is a verse of a song that touches my soul. I wanted the whole world to know this, so I put in on this blog I just started. What does this mean to you? I feel it pulsing through my being like some sort of broken blood vessel. Am I the only one?

Often times I lay awake wondering why I do what I do. But this lyric from an incredible powerful song  reminds me each day that no matter what the evil, there is always escape.

My dog Tony wants to type something here:

uUOAS ;NpgAS

Tony says “Hi”.

Well, It’s getting close to dinner, so I’ll wrap up with this funny joke I heard:

Q: What did the man say to the other man?

A: Do you hear laughing?

Do you have a favorite joke? Let me hear it!

-Luigi
